Q&A about the hot-air balloon ride

A hot air balloon can only fly up to two hours after the sun rise to do it in safe conditions, giving us the possibility of making only one or sometimes maximum two flights per day.

The flight varies between 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the conditions. It may vary if the pilot deems a necessary landing due to changing weather conditions.

We fly every single day, 365 days a year.

We recommend wearing a warm jacket, sunglasses, a good pair of boots or comfortable shoes.

The basket sizes vary for each balloon, with the largest holding 14 people and the smallest holding three people (including the pilot). For the comfort of our passengers there are sections inside the balloons and the maximum allowed per section is 6 people.

Hot air balloons are totally dependent on the direction and conditions of the wind. The landing normally takes place in unoccupied lands around Teotihuacan.

Our commitment is to fly in the Teotihuacan Valley, 90% of the times we fly over the pyramids. Sometimes the direction of the wind does not allow us to pass just above the pyramids which is something out of our control.

The risks are really minimal, however we prohibit pregnant women from flying and we do not recommend it for people who just had surgery or with certain medical conditions.

For safety the minimum age is 4 years old.

We work hand in hand with Flying Pictures de México where the quality of our balloons and the experience of our pilots are essential, for this reason we make sure that all our pilots have more than 10 years of experience and are certified by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC). In this way we assure you a 100% safe flight.

Visit to the Underworld

You will visit a cave that has existed for at least a million years as a result of volcanic activity and was considered by our ancestors in the mesoamerican civilizations as the entrance to the underworld and represented a holy space for them. While you walk inside the cave you’ll learn about the importance of Death for the people in ancient times and how it’s still an active element in our culture. This visit is perfect if you like to learn and at the same time experience and captivate your senses in a different way.

Breakfast Buffet

You’ll have breakfast at La Canasta Restaurant Buffet. It’s a fusion food concept where the best of Mexican gastronomy is integrated with the English classics, here you’ll find the best quality fruit, bread, deli and cheeses specially selected and much more. You’ll have included as well unlimited fresh coffee, orange juice and fruit water.

Ancient Ceremonies & Dances

Accompanied by the cultural group "Teoilhuicatl" you will be able to experience a spiritual renewal ceremony full of prehispanic elements. You will admire the typical ancient costumes, the feather headdresses and the dances that our ancestors offered to be in contact and to thank Mother Earth.

This ceremony lasts approximately 45 minutes and you will feel like you are traveling back in time through all the highly symbolic elements present.

Proposals & Weddings

We can help you planning one of the most special occasions in life, such as a marriage proposal and an alternative option with a prehispanic ceremony that represents the union between 2 beings, better known as "Atado de Tilma", the Aztec wedding.

1. For the marriage proposal we suggest you to do it while you fly in a private hot air balloon ride with your special someone.

This is an incredible surprise: during the flight the pilot will approach the crew who are prepared with the message: Will you marry me? While you get ready to give the engagement ring. You’ll continue flying for a while and at the time of landing the mariachis will arrive to play some romantic Mexican songs and a bouquet of roses will be given to you for your fiancée.

2. The "Atado de Tilma" or aztec wedding is a symbolic ceremony where the couple unites in a spiritual way. The couple wears the traditional clothes for this celebration, the name of the garments is "huipil" for women and "tilma" for men, they also wear a crown and a necklace made of flowers. Those in charge of carrying out this ceremony are the Mexica leaders who have learned these traditions as a legacy from their family. During the symbolic wedding, different elements are offered to the couple, such as water that symbolizes purity, different seeds that represent abundance and a typical mexican candy made of amaranth, "alegría" that symbolizes joy in their union. Various dances are also performed for the couple and the guests alluding to the elements in nature. Finally, instead of rice, in this ceremony white flower petals are thrown to the newlyweds along with the good wishes of the attendees.

Clay Workshop

In this experience you will be able to create your own piece made of clay by the hand of local artisans who have dedicated themselves to this noble trade for generations.

In the meantime you will also learn about the origin and importance of this activity in the Teotihuacan Valley and the impact it has had on the families of this region in Mexico.

Temazcal (Aztec Sauna) + Picnic

In Mesoamerica, since ancient times, the temazcal, "steam bath", has played an important role in social and religious life. The temazcalli (from Nahuatl: theme, "steam", and calli, "house") can be defined as "steam bath house”. According to the 16th century chroniclers such as Sahagún, Durán and Clavijero, the function of the temazcal was varied: hygienic, postpartum treatment, religious and therapeutic. the last one was used to cure illnesses related to the hot-cold concept. Among the Mesoamerican cultures, the temazcal had a ritual function and a cosmological significance. The temazcal represented the interior of the Earth. The way to obtain the steam is by heating stones on which water is thrown to produce the steam.

EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: You will spend approximately 2 hours inside the temazcal in the company of an expert who will guide you through this experience. Your host will be taking care of you all the time.

Good to know:
You will be in a smaller space than usual and ith very little light, at times in almost complete darkness. (Not recommended for people who suffer from claustrophobia). We will give you the necessary information at the beginning so that you have the best experience in this Aztec Sauna.
